THE WINE
Corte Pavone Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, which is called locally Brunello, because of the brownish cast to its berries. Montalcino, the village where the wine is from, takes its name from the “ILEX”, or oak tree. “Mons Ilcinus” or Montalcino is a town which has been producing wine since the Etruscan era, even before the Ancient Romans. Brunello is a wine of great fame and reputation. The strict D.O.C.G. requirement demands a minimum of 4 years age, at least two years of which must be in oak casks. It is not uncommon for a Brunello of a good vintage to age for 25 years with proper storage. An aristocratic wine of meditation.
In extraordinary vintages a small amount of the best wine is set aside for an additional year of aging at the winery. This is Brunello di Montalcino Riserva which will develop in the bottle for 50 years or more.
Certified organic by BIOS and Biodynamic viticulture is practiced at all wineries.

THE VINE
The Sangiovese is a red grape varietal that dates to the Roman classical era. Its etymology, “Sangue di Giove” (“Blood of Jupiter”) is an indication of its power and grandeur. It is one of Italy’s most important grapes, producing Brunello di Montalcino and providing the basis for Chianti, Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and many other Tuscan reds.
