Villa Puccini Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG

INSPIRATION
Opera. Lifestyle. The Extraordinary.
A magical place famed for the birth of opera, fast cars and a passion for all things extraordinary. Where land meets the sea, passion turns to poetry, transcends into rhapsody and beautiful hand picked grapes transform into wine. Villa Puccini was inspired by this long history rich with opera, culture, elegance, prestige and most of all a passion for wine.

THE WINE
Villa Puccini Vernaccia di San Gimignano is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. It harmonizes very well the minerals of the soil and the fruit/acid balance of the grapes. The flowery, crisp, fresh, aromatic style is reminiscent of a fine French Graves or a good California Sauvignon Blanc. The vine thrives in the sandy, clay and limestone soil on slopes which range from 250-300 meters above sea level (about 800-1,000 feet).
Enjoy Villa Puccini Vernaccia di San Gimignano young and chilled. It is an ideal luncheon wine. It is a wine with a long history. As Michelangelo Buonarroti said of Vernaccia di San Gimignano in 1643, “…it kisses, licks, bites, pinches and stings…”

THE VINE
The word Vernaccia in Italian means vernacular, and denotes local or indigenous. It is applied to many varietals, both red and white, which apparently have no relationship to each other. The most illustrious example is the green-berried Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
White Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a classic, historic wine. We are told that it was Michelangelo’s favorite. In that era, the wine was copper colored and sherry-like in taste. Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first wine granted DOC status, as well as Tuscany’s only DOCG white wine.
This ancient vine was brought to Tuscany from Greece in the 12th century by Perone Peroni. It thrives in the yellow sand and clay soil on the hillsides outside of the medieval village of San Gimignano. The potential for this vine is vast, especially since it works well with barrel aging and is capable of producing a riserva wine. The charming commune of San Gimignano is famous for its towers, churches, and frescos, as well as for its wines.
