Capitanio

THE WINERY:  

Capitanio Wines are produced at the Corte Mary winery which was founded shortly after the Second World War. The estate is located in Marano, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone. The family owns 80 hectares (200 acres), about 40% of which is devoted to viticulture. They also have long term contracts with local growers who control another 25 hectares (about 63 acres). A major attention and investment have been made to improve the vinification and maturation equipment, especially the natural drying process so important to producing great Amarone, Recioto and Ripasso wines. The winery has both large and small oak casks. The soil is volcanic, clay and marl mixed with limestone.
